The Board is responsible for the strategic, financial and governance of IGOPA on an ongoing basis. The Board plays a key role in the running of the organisation and ensures that IGOPA remains on the forefront of data protection in IGO’s.
Chair

Gabriele Thiede
Gabriele is the Data Protection Officer of CERN.
She has started her career as a legal assistant, before studying computer science and then working in a research project about electronic transaction processing in the Ministry for environment, nature protection and regional planning of the Land of Brandenburg.
Gabriele has joined CERN in 1998 and took responsibilities in the domains of Business Process Reengineering, of Reporting and Monitoring, and of Support allowing her to acquire broad competencies in administration, computing, and statistics, before being nominated Data Privacy Adviser in 2019
Secretary

Marja-Leena van der Made
Data Protection Officer at the European Space Agency, which she joined after a career in the banking industry (HypoVereinsbank, Bank of Finland, European Central Bank) as Systems Engineer (IT Projects and Operations), Information Manager and in Data Protection. She holds qualifications in Project Management (MBA); BSc in Information Management; Masters Certificate in Business Analysis; Systems Engineer; Honours BA; Data Protection Certification. Recipient of the Records Management Award (UK) and Pro Exzellenzia Award.
Treasurer

David Taylor
David is an attorney with over 20 years of front-line experience in data protection. He was also Prof of IT law for over a decade.
He is a Data Protection Commissioner for a particle physics research Intergovernmental Organisation (IGO). He has worked as a Data Protection Officer (DPO) in an Intergovernmental Organisation (IGO) in life sciences and bioinformatics putting him at the global cutting edge of privacy in these areas.
He was previously also a DPO for a global information technology infrastructure, data centre and networks company. He has been an international privacy consultant for many years and been an acting CISO for a global IT services company.
David has sat on various company boards and board subcommittees.

Strategic Goals of the IGOPA Board

1. Ensure that all Members experience IGOPA’s demand driven value proposition.
2. To grow IGOPA’s strategic partnership with Intergovernmental Organisations and the data protection sector.
3. To be active in the discourse of data protection and Intergovernmental Organisations in the public domain.
4. To grow IGOPA membership.
5. To improve IGOPA’s financial sustainability.
6. To embed good corporate governance within IGOPA.
